Purpose of Award

MACC annually presents Environmental Service Awards honoring those who have made outstanding contributions toward environmental awareness and resource protection in Massachusetts. Nominees may be Conservation Commissioners, citizen activists, career environmentalists, government officials, teachers, students or others who have contributed significant time and energy toward environmental practice.

Award categories typically include a "Conservation Commissioner of the Year." This award will be given to a present or past Commissioner who has made an outstanding contribution to his/her board and community. An outstanding Conservation Commission Administrator or other staff person is also usually recognized.

Accomplishments such as the following are considered by the Awards Committee in selecting the recipients: increasing efficiency of operations, hearings, meetings; writing and passing bylaws; increasing the effectiveness of the Wetlands Act in protecting the wetlands and water resources of the community; spearheading important land acquisitions; development of land-management plans; completing a significant local project.
Awards are presented at the MACC Annual Environmental Conference in March.
