My understanding is that even DEP has essentially given up on the idea to use macroinverts to define perennial flow. It has proven impossible to identify any that conclusively require perennial flow.


: Does anyone know of specific benthic macroinvertebrates that require a perennial flow to complete a lifecycle? This would be very helpful in a perennial vs. intermittent dispute. I know the Rivers Act states that there are certain macro's that require perennial flow but then they are not listed. And the checklist in the MACC manual does give consideration to macro's.
