Town of Amesbury, PART-TIME CONSERVATION AGENT

SUMMARY
Reporting to the Director of Community and Economic Development, and with direction from the Conservation
Commission, while working with other Town departments, the public and others, administer and enforce the Massachusetts
Wetlands Protection Act and local by-laws and ordinances related to wetlands and other conservation.

DUTIES
Act as agent for the Conservation Commission in the management and efficient administration of Massachusetts Wetlands Protection Act and local by-laws and ordinances. Communicate and collaborate with various Town departments in the permitting process related to conservation related plan reviews and other inspections. Provide professional expertise to the Conservation Commission in analyzing and evaluating projects and plans impacting wetlands, and other environmentally protected and/or regulated areas. Provide professional staff assistance to the Conservation Commission and Permit Coordinator including preparing meeting agendas, attending and participating in all Commission meetings, offering recommendations, and as needed, filling for the secretary to take meeting minutes. Assist in the development of conservation local bylaw policies and procedures for consideration by the Commission and
upon adoption of these policies and procedures oversee implementation, and enforcement. Working with the public, provide information, arrange public hearings as necessary, and participate in court filings related
to this position. Participate in local, regional, State and national organizations as required or deemed appropriate for this position and the
responsibilities it carries. Perform administrative duties including maintaining accurate records, preparing monthly, annual and otherreports, budget management, answering phones, and responding to questions from the public, private entities and others. Other duties as related to this position.

REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor's degree in environmental sciences or related field
1-3 years of experience in wetlands administration, enforcement, and review Knowledge of State Wetlands Protection Act, Town ordinances and bylaws related to conservation Knowledge of the permitting process
Valid Driver's License. Knowledge and experience with MS Word, Excel, Outlook and Access. Strong communication and organization skills.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Frequent time spent in non-office environments including private property, construction sites and wetlands areas. Some travel by private car within the Town and to neighboring communities. Regular lifting and carrying of supplies and records. May require sustained periods of walking and standing. May require ability to maneuver around a construction site.

HOURS: 20 hours per week; SALARY RANGE: $15,000 - $18,000 per year

This position may include an opportunity to increase hours to full-time in the future.

Paul Finger Associates, Inc., a growing Landscape Design firm, is looking for a full-time Planner for their busy Waltham, MA office. Our office specializes in site design, engineering and permitting for a wide range of institutional, recreational, commercial, office and R&D, as well as high-end residential development.

Responsibilities for the position include: project and budget management; zoning and permit analyses; environmental assessments; review of site drawings for zoning compliance; technical writing, review and quantitative analysis; coordination with clients, sub-consultants, and federal, state and local regulatory authorities; and proposal preparation among other duties.

The ideal candidate will have five or more years of experience in land use planning and environmental permitting, with bachelors/masters in Environmental Science/Planning or related field. The skills and knowledge necessary to successfully perform the functions of the position include the ability to work independently as well as part of a team, multi-task in a fast-paced and deadline oriented environment, strong project and budget management skills, organization and writing skills, strong attention to detail, solid familiarity with the state and federal legislative processes and an understanding of the principles and practices of land use planning. The candidate should be proficient in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook. Familiarity with ArcView/ArcGIS, AutoCAD and Microsoft Project software a plus.

Responsible for assisting the Conservation Commission in a wide variety of tasks associated with compliance and/or enforcement under M.G.L. ch. 131 sec 40, the Wetlands Protection Act.  Degree or advanced training in environmental science or related field and a minimum of two years working in wetlands protection, land conservation, environmental management or related field; or an equivalent combination training and experience. Flexible work schedule; approximately 15 hours per week, to be determined by the Conservation Commission and depending on various circumstances, start and finish times may very.  Salary range of $17.35 to $19.48 per hour, commensurate with knowledge, skills and experience. Town of Sherborn, Conservation Commission Agent's Assistant
Work with Sherborn’s Conservation Agent on administration of the MA Wetlands Protection Act and the related Sherborn By-Law. Job includes assisting in the processing of applications, preparing deposits and expense vouchers, drafting basic communications, copying, meeting preparation, and maintaining office files. Town of Sherborn The Town of Sherborn, which has been a leader in land conservation and environmental protection issues, seeks applicants for the position of Conservation Commission Agent. This is a part-time position that administers the Wetlands and Rivers Protection Acts and the Town’s General Wetlands By-Law, provides technical support and planning assistance to the Conservation Commission, manages town conservation land and conservation land acquisition projects, and coordinates public education and informational programs on natural resources and environmental issues in Sherborn.

Requires BA/BS in Environmental Sciences or related field, and three years experience in implementing, administering and enforcing the Wetlands and Rivers Protections Acts, or any equivalent combination of education and experience. Qualified candidates will also have strong communication skills (both oral and written) as well as strong organizational and management skills (including managing assistant), with the ability to coordinate diverse community and staff efforts towards defining and achieving Town goals. At least one year of municipal government preferred. Salary range is $21 to 25 per hour, commensurate with experience, plus benefits. Time commitment is about 26-28 hours per week, which includes participation in the Commission’s regular meeting held the third Thursday evening of each month.

Duties: Under the direction of the Environmental Affairs Director, the Conservation Land Use Assistant is responsible for assisting the Conservation Commission to fulfill its statutory duties. These responsibilities encompass activities which support administration of the state Wetlands Protection Act and its accompanying regulations, and the Billerica Wetlands Protection By-Law and its accompanying regulations. Responsibilities may include review of wetland applications and project plans, attendance at meetings on behalf of the Department, performing site inspections for compliance with orders of Conditions, preparing written reports, recommendations and routine correspondence. Work includes routine support in the day to day operations of the office. Under the supervision of the Director, manage Town-owned conservation land. Assist the Director in research, writing and administration grants and in carrying out grant activities. Work with the community in a range of tasks, including development and coordination of volunteer efforts on town lands and environmental education programs.

Requirements: An Associates degree in environmental science, botany, hydrology, civil engineering or a related field with one to three years related work experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.

Salary: $724.00 - 962.34 Hours: Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.- 4 p.m. EOA/AA
